Description
Seven days holiday in a house in Alston, Cumbria, for up to eight people.
School House at Leadgate, near Alston in Cumbria, is a converted farmhouse owned and used by Westminster School as a base for pupil adventure training. It is fitted out very much like an old style Youth Hostel. It is comfortable but not luxurious. It has one small bedroom and three dormitory-style bedrooms equipped with bunk beds. It can easily sleep up to 8. There is a sitting room, dining room, kitchen with electric cooker, freezer, fridge and microwave, and a drying room. It has oil-fired central heating as well as an open fire. There are several toilets, showers and washbasins and a family sized bathroom with a separate shower, bath and WC. There is a telephone and off road parking for one vehicle but no television or radio. There is no broadband or other Internet access. The views are excellent but there is almost no garden. The building is about 2 miles from Alston; there is a general stores in Garrigill, close by, and a variety of shops and facilities in Alston.
School House is within easy reach (by car – there is no public transport to Leadgate) of the Lake District and the Yorkshire Peaks; Durham is about an hour-and-a-half by road over the Pennines.
Timing of the holiday will depend on the availability of School House and will be agreed with Dr Rod Beavon, Senior Master, at Westminster School.
